The NFL Draft Has More Questions Than Answers

This year’s NFL Draft is full of uncertainty—and in my opinion, that’s due to a lack of depth across the board. Take Cam Ward, for example. We've seen flashes of strong play, but he doesn’t give off the same aura as past top quarterback prospects. To me, he’s a bust waiting to happen.

That said, there is a bright spot at the quarterback position—one I wasn’t always sold on. Shedeur Sanders has been in the spotlight thanks to his play and his famous father, Deion Sanders. But my view on him changed after seeing a clip from The Pat McAfee Show, where Ian Rapoport shared a story about his recent interaction with the Sanders family.
Rapoport was trying to get information on Shedeur’s plans for the NFL Combine. He reached out to someone close to the family and was told Deion would give him a call. Minutes later, he received a FaceTime from Deion, who handed the phone to Shedeur.
“Deion goes, ‘Talk to Rapsheet,’” Rapoport recalled. “So we talked. Shedeur told me what he was doing, explained the plan, and discussed some of the things he was focusing on over the next couple of weeks.
“Then he handed the phone back to his dad. Deion asked, ‘You good?’ Shedeur said, ‘I’m good.’ It was just an unbelievably mature, level-headed, grounded way of handling what could have been a huge issue. Deion wanted to make sure Shedeur handled it himself.”
We’ve heard criticism of Shedeur before. Yes, he’s made mistakes. But he’s also shown talent on the field. Based on this story, it seems like he’s growing up and is in good hands.
The media often jumps on athletes with a bit of swagger, and the Sanders family certainly has that. But Deion is also a smart football mind and a strong leader. That foundation will help Shedeur stay grounded and develop into a professional.
I’m not ready to release a mock draft just yet—there’s still too much up in the air. But Ben’s got one coming your way. I suspect he doesn’t agree with me.
