Week 1 Recap + Week 2 Preview

Football is finally here! It arrived with some wild games, amazing touchdowns and it left me wanting more. Let’s break it down.

Thursday Through Monday: Your First Week Rundown

Fantasy managers had a rollercoaster start. Stars like Jahmyr Gibbs and Christian McCaffrey were kept out of the endzone, while Derrick Henry, Bijan Robinson, and rookie Emeka Egbuka exploded with big games.

On the field, the majority of betting favorites won, aside from upsets from the Raiders and Bills. The Bengals barely scraped by, recording only seven yards of offense in the entire second half, and now head into Week 2 against a weak Jaguars squad. The 49ers also showed early cracks: CMC racked up 142 yards, but injuries to George Kittle and others left Brock Purdy forcing throws that led to turnovers.

The Colts turned heads behind Daniel Jones, who became the first QB this century to score on every drive — suddenly making Indy a dark horse in the AFC South.

And of course, the Sunday Night thriller. The Bills stormed back from a 15-point 4th-quarter deficit to stun the Ravens 41–40 on a Matt Prater game-winning field goal. Josh Allen was sensational, throwing for 394 yards, two touchdowns, and adding two rushing scores. A Derrick Henry fumble late swung the game, and Buffalo stole one of the wildest openers in recent memory.

Just as SNF delivered, so did MNF. J.J. McCarthy bounced back after a dreadful 1st half; his opposition in Caleb Williams cooled off after an opening drive TD. While the ball was spread amongst skill position players on both sides, it was clearly a fun watch and something fans can be excited about as two of the league's youngest QBs went head-to-head. The Bears' penalty woes were the final difference, giving McCarthy the chance to prove he belongs.

Where Did the Receivers Go?

It was a rough fantasy week for top receivers. Derrick Henry alone had 182 total yards, and it took six commonly drafted top-15 WRs combined just to match that number:

  • Ja’Marr Chase: 26 yds

  • Brian Thomas Jr.: 20 yds

  • Nico Collins: 25 yds

  • A.J. Brown: 8 yds

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown: 45 yds

  • Tyreek Hill: 40 yds

That’s 164 yards combined - still short of King Henry’s mark. Don’t panic quite yet, one week doesn’t define elite WRs. These players will bounce back.

Week 2 Preview & Picks

Week 2 brings the heat with marquee matchups: Packers vs. Commanders on Thursday night, and a Super Bowl rematch between the Chiefs and Eagles. Combine these two picks and win 3x on Players Picks!

Picks:

  • Josh Jacobs over 77.5 rushing yards – The Packers keep rolling behind a strong ground game.

  • Hollywood Brown under 5.5 receptions – Kansas City’s WR1 faces a brutal matchup against Philly’s stacked secondary (Mitchell, Blankenship, DeJean). The Chiefs could be staring down their second loss already.
