Huge Weekend of Football: Eagles, Chiefs, and Heartbreak for Bills Fans
Huge weekend, with the Eagles beating the Commanders for the NFC Championship title, and the Kansas City Chiefs, once again, beating the Bills for the AFC title.
Listen, I’m a Buffalo Bills apologist, so I’m upset, to put it bluntly. Honestly, I didn’t really care about who won between the Commanders or Eagles—I didn’t have a horse in that race—but I definitely thought it would be a closer game than 23-55. I, along with everyone I knew, was rooting for the Bills and had to check in with a few friends after that devastating loss to make sure they were still functioning.
Saquon Barkley: A Historic Performance
Saquon Barkley is a dog. He scored a 60-yard TD on the first touch of the game, followed by another two touchdowns. He became only the 9th running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards. He’s also a finalist for the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards because of his insane season.
Chiefs vs. Bills: The Game Everyone Saw Coming
Now, the Chiefs versus the Bills game, everyone saw it coming but didn’t want it to be true.
I’ll start with the only positive thing I have to say about the Chiefs: they are a very well-coached team. Andy Reid knows what he’s doing and managed to develop the “odd-duck” QB Patrick Mahomes. Reid has a reputation for developing talent, like Smith and McNabb, in addition to Mahomes. He’s undoubtedly amazing at identifying and building around a QB’s strengths and weaknesses. A lot of teams suffer because they try to force the QB to fit their offense.
That said, Mahomes embellishing anytime a gust of wind from the opposing team comes his way has to stop. It’s embarrassing for the league to let that slide. Honestly, it makes sense now why the NFL is registered as a form of entertainment and not just a sport.

Officiating Woes and the Bills’ Heartbreak
Hand-in-hand with whiny Mahomes is the poor officiating. Probably the most controversial call of the night was the refs denying a 1st down to the Bills late in the game.
With 13:01 left in the fourth, Buffalo led 22-21 and attempted a QB sneak on fourth-and-1 at KC’s 41. Josh Allen seemed to reach the 40-yard line, but camera angles couldn’t confirm the ball’s exact position.
Trading Away Xavier Worthy: The Bills’ Regret
On a final note, I think the Bills are kicking themselves for trading Xavier Worthy to the Chiefs. It’s clear a lot of Worthy’s motivation for his game stemmed from the Bills kicking him to the curb.
